Welcome

Welcome to 8th Grade Language Arts!

Atticus Finch famously said, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view — until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Those words from the classic To Kill a Mockingbird are truer now more than ever.

It is important that we work together and build that empathy for the roles we share. Your support is paramount at the beginning of school. We are working towards the common goal for a fantastic 8th grade year. As the wise T’Challa said:

We will work to be an example of how we as brothers and sisters on this earth should treat each other. Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than divides us. But in times of crisis, the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.”

I am very excited to start another year with you! By the end of this year, you will be stronger readers, writers, and most importantly... ready for high school!

Our units will take us through memoirs, literary analysis, argument, nonfiction, and finally book clubs. We will get lost in our independent reading, take a stand in our debates, show off our passions... it is to be a year about you!
