JOHN AGOSTON

7TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES

[email protected]

Welcome to 7th grade Social Studies!

We will be covering mainly three topics-the 13 Colonies, the American Revolution, and U.S. Government.

Class will be 42 mins for the entire year.

Grading-Social Studies is made up of two categories: tests and quizzes. 60% are the tests, and 40% are the quizzes. Tests will always be announced.

A binder and pen will be handy for class. We do give out handouts which will be needed to keep track of. Past practice has shown that a binder works best, as it has the rings to hold the papers in place. Folders can be dropped, which allows the papers to spill all over the floor. Colored pencils and/or markers may be handy, but not necessary.

If there is difficulty obtaining materials, let me know discreetly and we will get you what you need.

Current events are covered from time to time. CNN 10 and Newsela are used but are not the only sources.

We do watch videos, which will be linked in Schoology if they are from the internet. We will also use AMERICA: A STORY OF US, Schoolhouse Rock, LIBERTYS KIDS and movies. Some movies have been edited for content, and as a result, may be grainy at certain points.

Public speaking is an important part of daily life, and as such, we will be doing some in class. We will be working on strategies to help with this fun skill. As always, we will be working with students who may be uncomfortable with this skill.

Missing work will be on Schoology. Absent work will be graded in accordance with District Policy.

Family always comes first, so if there is an emergency, please do not worry about schoolwork. Legitimate reasons should always take precedence over my work.

Email is always the best way to get in touch with your teachers. We will reach out to you as soon as possible.

I look forward to working with you this school year!
