Independent Reading
Independent Reading
Throughout the year, you will be expected to keep up and maintain 90 minutes of independent reading each week. We will set goals, hold contests, and complete assignments based on the books you are reading.
But Ms. Howell, where can I find a book to read?
You are welcome to borrow any book I have in the classroom library. The school library is also available to you during class if needed. Of course you are welcome to bring in books you have purchased on your own.
You can also download eBooks to read on your iPad through Kindle or Overdrive, which is the Public Library's eBook platform. Here is a Padlet link that may help you find a book!
Are there any books that I am not allowed to read?
Books in the classroom library are not censored and are all within middle grade and young adult fiction categories. If you are unsure of any content, please ask me and I will provide you with a summary and information. Your reading choices are based on your parent/guardian’s discretion.
I don’t like any books. What do I do?
Chances are you just haven’t found the right book yet. Check out the Schoology page for a list and summary of all the new and upcoming books. You can also search through your Goodreads account to help you find something engaging.
