There have been a lot of changes to the ELA curriculum this year. We will be doing several units in Common Lit 360.
Reader’s Workshop:
Students will have the opportunity to choose their own books on their own level. Students will challenge themselves to move up levels as the school year progresses. Students will pick from a variety of genres and learn strategies through mini-lessons, read-alouds, independent reading, and shared reading. Students will be writing about their books in their reader's notebook. These entries will be collected and graded periodically.
Students may borrow books from my classroom library or the media center and will be responsible for protecting the book & keeping it in good condition.
Writer’s Workshop:
Writing will include many different types, including narrative, literary analysis, argument, etc… The writing topics will coincide with the reading units.
Vocabulary:
Learning new words will be a daily practice in our class. Students will interact with these words and later will be quizzed on them after each group of words. These words go along with the Common Lit units.
