Independent Reading

Each student MUST read a novel of his/her choice each night for a minimum of 20 minutes (M-F) or (100 min. per week).
*If we read in class (This does not count towards your 100 minutes).

FOR UNITS 1 AND 2: YOUR BOOK MUST BE FICTION.

  • Students can choose a book from my classroom library (This will be discussed in class), online virtual resources, the media center, the public library, or bring one from home. ** IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO BUY BOOKS
  • Be sure your book is on your reading level and is approved by your parent/guardian! (We will discuss how to pick "the just-right book" in class).
  • I suggest putting your book into a gallon-sized ziplock bag to protect it. Then you can slip this into your laptop string bag. This way you will always remember to bring it home & then back to school each day.
  • Remember: Reading summaries of books or watching the movie is not the same thing as READING THE BOOK!!

I believe everyone can enjoy reading if they just find that book, author, genre or topic they can connect with. I challenge all of you to find your niche this year in books! I will help you.
