3. "The Cop and the Anthem"

4. "The Retrieved Reformation"

5. "The Last Leaf"

6. "The Ransom of Red Chief"

** Be sure to take notes using Adobe Reader on the laptop & save each file to a folder on your desktop for easy reference.

** We also created a Google Doc (called Literary Essay Notes) where we are taking notes regarding literary connections we are seeing between stories.

** By the end of the week, each student will decide on 2 stories to use for his/her essay and what literary element he/she will write about. We will develop our thesis statements.

WE WILL START WRITING ORGANIZING & GATHERING EVIDENCE FOR OUR ESSAYS NEXT WEEK & WRITING WILL FOLLOW.

Memoir Writing Assignment

Final Memoir due: Thurs. 10/11 (BY THE END OF LA CLASS!!)

* Follow "Guidelines" given in class (I added them below too).
* Please submit on Schoology (following the directions given in class).
* Late essays will lose points! Plenty of time was given in class to work on this. You may work on this at home tonight if you think you need to in order to finish tomorrow.

Guidelines:

1. Your memoir must be a 12-14 point font & Times New Roman.

2. Your memoir MUST be typed on Google Docs & DOUBLE-SPACED! (not 1.15 or 1.5 spacing).

3. Minimum 2 pages and a maximum of 3 pages in length.

4. Please organize into paragraphs with a clear opening and closing paragraph.

5. Be sure to add a reflection somewhere in your piece. Most students do this at the end.  (Remember: this is a "MEMOIR" not just a "PERSONAL NARRATIVE," so your story should have some significance to you!! (Convey HOW the events of the story effected YOU).

6. Clearly "SHOW" attitudes and feelings through the thoughts, action and dialogue of the characters.

7. Be sure your memoir has a TITLE! ("My Memoir" is not a good title. Make sure your title focuses on the main idea of your story).

Remind 101

* Please sign up for Remind 101 if you have not done so already. My upcoming assignments are sent daily. Parents AND students may sign up for Remind.

Schoology

I apologize for any inconvenience. I've just been told that parent accounts on Schoology are not enabled. So, in order to sign on, you will have to get the username & password from your child. You can sign on from any computer. There is also a Schoology app for your smartphone.

Reader's Notebook Entries

** These were assigned today. FOLLOW GUIDELINES HANDED OUT & TAPED IN YOUR NOTEBOOK. (These are also on Schoology).
** 2 Short & 2 Long entries are due by: Thurs. 10/18

* It is best if you finish your book first and then compete the entries. However, if you have a really long book, that's ok. If you just finished a book, you can do some entries on the first book & then start reading your next book. You can do the remaining entries on the second book.

Back to School Night

I'm looking forward to meeting parents/guardians at Back to School Night tonight at 6 PM. Please go to your child's homeroom to get his/her schedule.

Team 8-4 homeroom teachers:

Next week...

Try to have: sign & return paper & supplies by next Wed. Decide on your independent reading book. Many students already signed out books in my classroom. If you already have a book at home, start bringing it to class on Wed. when we return from the 4 day weekend.

First Day of School

I hope you all had a great first day! I know I did. Some things to remember for LA class:
1. Give the letter, Remind 101 instructions and sign & return page to parents.
2. Share my website w/ your parents & look it over yourself.
3. Start thinking about what fiction book you may want to read for independent reading. We will further discuss this tomorrow in class.
4. Try to get your materials by next Wed. 9/12 (after the long weekend).
